I am very concerned about the vacant store fronts. I have made several proposals at the Council meeting to address this problem but have not gotten any support from the rest of the Council. I have proposed meeting with the proptery owners and bussiness owners to see what could be done but was told "this is up to the Chamber of Commerce to do" I suggested directional signs to downtown like Auburn, Roseville and many other cities have but again no response. I asked that we get a Farmer's MArket back as we had. Again no support
I will continue in my efforts to inmprove the bussiness climate in downtown. Sooner or later this will happen

Has anyone on the Council passed this message on to the lady that runs the Chamber Office?
Is she involved in these meetings in which the rest of the Council decides that it is the Chambers responsibility.
I wonder how the Chamber would react to this type of news.
Do the Chamber members pay their dues to the Chamber office to make sure this type of thing is accomplished?
It sounds like the Council is falling down on their responsibility to their town. Maybe a message needs to be sent to them in the form of not being re-elected.
Most of them of have been on too long anyway.
I've rehashed this enough times on this blog that I don't have anything else new to say. I will just add this--it is very sad to see this happen. It shouldn't happen. We have a great town here with great people but it looks like a dilapidated hole because no one cares about making it nice. It is not enough to say 'this is someone else's problem'. Every other municipality in the area takes an active role in promoting their town but ours. It is just sad.
Does a chamber of commerce even have the powers necessary to implement policies needed to improve the downtown? I don't think they could do anything even if they wanted to.
