Why is the Town of Loomis in the middle of approving the "Village at Loomis" project when a lot of the business space on Taylor Roads sits unoccupied?
Why doesn't the Town or the Chamber of Commerce do something like the Historical U.S. Highway 40 map to promote these businesses?
I have seen a US Hwy 40 sign in front of Floors to Go.
There needs to be something done to draw more folks in to patronize the Taylor Road area or I'm afraid that they'll become run-down & slummish looking.
I have expressed this before, but I will do it again. My biggest problem is the downtown area. It is neglected/blighted/ugly. At a time when the rest of the area (meaning the surrounding cities) has experienced tremendous business investment and moved forward by leaps and bounds, Loomis has gone backwards. Loomis is not unlike a city like Danville in the Bay Area. It too calls itself a 'town' instead of a city and it has a quaint, walkable, interesting downtown area.
A previous response of yours to the 'downtown improvement' issue was that no one on the council but you shows any interest in improving downtown. I believe this and it the primary reason why I rail on the ineptitude of the council members.
The focus, in my opinion needs to be on improving downtown. This means landscaping patches of weeds, installing sidewalks and lighting where appropriate, promoting the downtown area to businesses that will attract people to the area (a sit down restaurant would be nice). I might also add: trees, trees, tress -- nothing makes a downtown quaint and walkable like shade trees everywhere and I mean everywhere. When I drive by the Jimboys and the Blue Goose, I see empty areas of weeds, broken up asphalt, and blight. I should see trees, landscaping, perhaps a sculpture or 2. We need to break out of the box and start thinking outside of the Loomis box (sorry about the cliche). We need to look at the big picture and create a plan that will improve all of downtown.
We need to get rid of the auto repair shops on Taylor Road. That is not the place for that type of business! They belong on Swetzer! They never should have been allowed to go there in the first place! Now that they are here, they are difficult to get rid of. This is where the town council has failed us and it is why I want change.
A while ago, I also suggested burying utility lines. I know this is expensive, but if we plan it to happen as major projects happen, then we could get rid of them bit by bit. It would make such a difference to get rid of the utility lines and poles! We paid to completely redo the Loomis school and it would have been easy to bury those line and bring them back up on the other side of the project, but no. The lines are still there as ugly as can be in front of the new beautiful school.
