I have nothing against Fox's Automotive other than the fact it is an eyesore in the middle of town. There are several places much better suited for such a business (Swetzer Road comes to mind). My vote for a project would be to purchase the Fox's automotive building through emminate domain and tear it down. The Blue Goose is beginning to come together and the inside is really nice--the new roof looks great too. The grounds, on the other hand look awful. Ideally, the Blue Goose grounds from King Road to Web should be landscaped/parking lot--all done nicely (with no benches please).
Loomis as a whole is such a beautiful area. The downtown should look like a park--not a hodge-podge of blighted buildings and weedy lots like it is now.
Another project I think would be worthy of investigating is burrying some or all of the utility lines. Besides looking nicer, buried utilities are easier to maintain and safer. I know some of the best lots in Loomis have been deemed not buildable because of the power lines above the lots. There is an open area between Taylor and the railroad tracks where lines could be buried without having to rip up existing infrastructure. Plus, I know that area will be developed someday so now is the time to at least start planning this project so it can happen before the development begins.
In our neighborhood, more street lighting would be a huge plus. Also, more Sheriff's patrols would help. We have neighbor's that rent & they don't care to obey the laws that much.
Maybe someone could also replace the "Welcome to Loomis" sign down by the old KOA campground. This sign looks old and broken down, and is covered by brushes & branches.
Maybe even one of the Boy Scouts in town could take it on as a project.
How about a little pie in the sky? I was in Redding the other day and visited their Turtle Bay Museum and Subdial Bridge. It is a museum, landmark (the bridge), arboretum, restuarant, and live events center. This would be the ideal use of the land between Secret Ravine and I80 on the south side of the freeway.
Obviously you would need to court someone with a ton of money to make this their pet project if you wanted to make it work. I guess the ideal would probably be someone who dies and leaves their fortune for the purpose of building such a project (I believe this is how it was built in Redding). I know part of this area is already set for development, but there is still a ton of property between Horseshoe, King, Secret Ravine, and I80. It is beautiful property with lots of trees and the creek.
If we don't do anything, then it will probably end up clear-cut with a Big KMart or something simialrly hideous and depressing. I know the community would rally behind an idea like this.
